The Family Farm that Started it All
History of the Property

Blissful Meadows Golf Club is built upon land that was purchased by the Wood family from the King of England in 1726 when the town of Uxbridge was a section of Sherborn, Massachusetts.
The one and one-half story cape-style hand-hewed post and beam farmhouse (located to the right of the clubhouse) was built by the Wood family in 1745 and is now in the National Register of Historic Buildings.
In 1851, the Wood family sold the farm to Comfort R. Thompson. Thompson remodeled the 1745 farmhouse in 1879 by constructing a 2-story addition. Then, in 1880, Mr. Thompson built the large historic Victorian barn (now the clubhouse). This building is also in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Thompson family sold the farm in 1957 to the Holman family which in turn, sold the farm to the Rondeau family, who purchased the farm with the intent of raising cattle and providing an income from the land.
In 1964, Gordon and Jean Bliss purchased the farm, including the house, barn, approximately 100 acres of land, and all of the farm machinery for the fair asking price of $14,900. This was to become a "hobby" farm for the Blisses and their 7 children, all of whom grew up on the farm with horses, cows, beef cattle, chickens, pigs, goats and sheep. They named their farm "Blissful Meadows".
A Legacy of Golf & Family Tradition
The vision for Blissful Meadows Golf Club began with a heartfelt suggestion from Jean Bliss's father, Joseph Serafino. A passionate golfer, Joseph often played with his family during visits to Florida, and it was during one of these rounds that he remarked how the Bliss family hobby farm would make a wonderful golf course. His words planted the seed of an idea that would eventually transform the land into the beloved course it is today.
In 1988, construction of the course began, with Gordon, Jean, Kevin, and Cindy as equal partners in the project. The front nine opened in 1991, followed shortly by the back nine, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Bliss family. For over a decade, the four of them, with the support of additional family members, worked tirelessly to establish and grow Blissful Meadows into a premier golf destination.
In 2000, Kevin and Cindy decided to branch out on their own, selling their portion of the course to Gordon and Jean and purchasing Crystal Lake Golf Club in Burrillville, Rhode Island. From that point on, Blissful Meadows remained family-owned and operated by Gordon and Jean, with the support of their daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and a dedicated team of staff members.
To this day, the spirit of family, tradition, and a love for the game remains at the heart of Blissful Meadows, creating a warm and welcoming experience for all who visit.
